News: Tiger Woods to design Donald Trump's golf course in Dubai

Tiger Woods continues to expand his golf course design business, signing on to create an 18-hole layout in Dubai that will be operated by The Trump Organization.

The Trump World Golf Club, Dubai, which is being developed by DAMAC Properties, will be located in a master-planned community called AKOYA Oxygen. The course is expected to open by the end of 2017, and site preparation work is already under way.

Woods, a 14-time major champion and former world No. 1 player, has several projects in development in the U.S. and Mexico. His first, El Cardonal in Mexico, is expected to open by the end of this month.

"I can't wait to see this stunning project come to life," Woods said in a news release posted on his website. "Dubai is fast becoming one of the most influential golfing destinations in the world, both for the professional game and for amateurs looking to enjoy the great weather, great courses and amazing lifestyle."

"We plan to create a distinct and memorable golf course that players of all abilities find enjoyable. I'm looking forward to adding to the great courses of Dubai."

Woods, who has 79 PGA TOUR victories -- second only to Sam Snead, is a two-time winner of the Dubai Desert Classic. He is coming off an injury-plagued year that saw him undergo microdiscectomy surgery, miss the first two majors and eventually compete in just seven events.

Woods, who also parted ways with swing coach Sean Foley and began working with Chris Como during his most recent layoff, returned to competition last week for the first time since the PGA Championship at the Hero World Challenge he hosts. He ended up tied for last, shooting rounds of 77, 70, 69 and 72.
