The first snow has fallen on The World Islands in Dubai – and just in time for Christmas too.
In a truly desert-defying sign of things to come, 7DAYS came face-to-face with ‘Frosty, the test snowman’ on the German slice of the $850 million (Dhs3.1 billion) The Heart of Europe project.
The Kleindienst Group claim it will be able make it “rain and snow” on the climate-controlled man-made islands – even under the baking sun – when developed.
“Our test proves it’s possible to make it snow and even build a snowman with technical snow, outdoors in Dubai,” CEO Josef Kleindienst told 7DAYS.
The snow was produced using special snow machines to be installed in select streets and plazas that will make up The Heart of Europe – namely Austria – where Kleindiest originates from, Monaco, Germany, Switzerland, St Petersburg – and Sweden too, which was launched last week.
