Video: Dubai loses its Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display to a small town in Norway, ISH

The town of Søgne, with a population of over 10,000, broke Dubai's record which was set on New Year's Eve, when 479,651 shells of fireworks lit up some of Dubai's top landmarks, including Palm Jumeirah, World Islands, the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab.

However, Søgne, which was marking the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution and celebrating Søgne's traditional switching on of the Christmas lights, broke the record with 540,382 rockets.
Anders Sture, the general manager of SVEA, the Scandinavian fireworks manufacturer behind the show, told 7Days that they have been planning the event since January this year.

"We all saw Dubai's fireworks online. One of my customers called me the next morning and said ‘should we try and break the record?' Initially I thought, is he crazy? It's not possible. But then when we did the math and we realised it's quite possible," he said.
While Søgne holds the record, he described the New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai as "the most beautiful fireworks I have ever seen".
