According to new court docs obtained, the "Loyal" singer has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), combined with severe insomnia. Brown has been in anger management rehab since, following an incident in Washington, D.C. that led to his arrest last October.
"Mr. Brown will also require close supervision by his treating physician in order to ensure his bipolar mental health condition remains stable," a letter from the rehab facility read. "It is not uncommon for patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar II to use substances to self-medicate their biomedical mood swings and trauma triggers."
"Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD," it also stated.
He also took to Twitter Friday (Feb. 28) to reflect on the proceedings and thanked his fans 24 hours prior.
Last September, he opened up his anger issues with JET magazine.
“You have to go through the struggle before you can get to the good part," he said. "I don’t try to lash out at people, or be as mad or impulsive as I used to be. I got to the point where it’s only so much you can take from the master, you feel me? I’ve taken my fair share of lashings.”
Brown will remain in rehab per the judge's recommendations. So far, so good as the facility has also commended him for his best behavior: "Mr. Brown's attitude has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service responsibilities."
