News: Nigerians in the UK demonstrate outside London High Commission to protest killings

NIGERIANS in the UK have held a demonstration outside the high commission in London to protest against the recent cold-blooded murder of dozens of students in the northeast of the country by Boko Haram terrorists.
Earlier this week, dozens of Nigerian secondary school were murdered by Boko Haram in an attack on Federal Government College Buni Yadi in YOBE State, Nigeria. In a particularly ghastly attack, explosives were thrown into students' accommodation and their rooms sprayed with gunfire.

Survivors said some of the victims, aged 11 to 18, had been burned alive during the attack on the school, which is about 45 miles south of Damaturu the Yobe State capital. Teachers who fled through the bush said around 40 pupils died in the assault, which began at around 2am on Tuesday morning.
 This follows a similar ghastly attack two weeks ago during which 39 people were killed in an attack on the nearby village of Konduga. Both sets of cold blooded murder have attracted international condemnation and Nigerians in the UK have decided to make their opinion known outside the high commission in London.

Early this morning, dozens of Nigerians turned up with placards calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to stop the killings. Protesters were particularly irked about the fact that this time around the victims were children.
Over recent months, Boko Haram has been targeting school across northeastern Nigeria because they are seen as soft targets. Amnesty International said the result is mass desertion, which is leading to a rise in illiteracy.
