News: Celine Dion's husband, René Angélil needs a break after a tumour surgery

René Angélil's publicist has released a statement today confirming that the Canadian music industry legend is recovering following surgery that took place over the holidays.

Angélil, known the world over as Céline Dion's husband/manager, had an operation on Dec. 23 to remove a cancerous tumour from his throat. The operation was a success and Angélil has been recovering at his home in Las Vegas.

As Angélil continues to recover, he will go on a "hiatus" from his regular workload.

"I don't want René to stress out with work-related issues," explained Céline in a statement. "I want him to focus on getting back to 100%. I've been doing my shows at the Colosseum and everything's under control. At home we've been spending a lot of quality time with the family. We feel very fortunate that we've been able to get the best care possible and we thank God every day for helping us to get through this ordeal."

The couple have indicated that they do not wish to make any additional comments at this time and they request that the press respect their privacy.
