News: Go Ahead, Challenge My Decision In Court, Jonathan Tells Sanusi

Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and President Goodluck Jonathan
Dr. Reuben Abati, President Goodluck Jonathan's Media and Publicity Adviser, spoke on behalf of the President at a press conference, saying Mr. Sanusi was free to go to court and challenge Jonathan's decision.
Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been suspended from the office since today, following the order of President Goodluck Jonathan. His passport was subsequently confiscated by the officials of the State Security Service.

"If he goes to court, he is a free citizen. The country is governed by law. An individual has the right to express himself under the constitution. So, we will not speculate about what has not happened," Dr. Abati maintained.
"It is on the basis of all of this and to allow for further investigations that the CBN governor has been asked to step aside.
"The question has also been raised on whether this has to do with the ongoing appearances in the National Assembly by the suspended CBN governor. I would like to state very clearly that this has nothing to do with that. I have given you the background so that you can see that this is the process," Dr. Abati explained.
"This Government remains committed to ensuring integrity and accountability and discipline in every sector of the economy. And it encourages persons who have issues, who have things to say to express their rights through the freedom of expression under the constitution.
"Indeed, the government of Nigeria is also ‎interested in what the legislature is doing and do not be surprised if government goes further to initiate further audits as has been suggested in some quarters."

It will be recalled that last year, Mr. Sanusi alerted the Presidency of the missing $20 billion oil money and exposed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as the harbinger of corruption and financial mismanagement.
