Photos & Video: Lion in backseat of SUV in Dubai sparks probe

A video showing a lioness in the backseat of a car on Sheikh Zayed Road has prompted a police probe.
The 9-second video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows the big cat in the back of a white Nissan Armada. The clip appears to have been filmed from the car behind the 4X4, which has a Dubai license plate.
A Dubai Police spokesman told 7Days: “We didn’t receive any calls about the incident, but we’re checking the video now to see if it’s old or new.”
“It’s not logical for a person to transfer a lion or crocodile inside a car. If someone did such a thing and he is arrested, he will be fined for endangering the lives of others,” General Expert Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, operations assistant for the head of Dubai Police, was quoted as saying.
It is not clear when the clip was filmed. A reddit user posted the video on the social network four days ago saying: "My sister was driving behind this truck in Dubai when she noticed something odd in the back."
This is not the first time footage of exotic animals on UAE roads has surfaced.
In 2012, a big cat was seen cruising in JBR with his head sticking out of a car window, while in 2011, a tiger was spotted in a Range Rover.
