News: 8-year-old divorces 14-yr-old husband in India

An 8-year-old girl has become the youngest divorcee in India, stirring uproar against the illegal practice and the state government calling for an inquiry into the incident.
According to reports in Daily Mail, the child was married off at the age of four to a 10-year-old boy form the same village in Uttar Pradesh.
However, last week – four years’ later - when the boy returned to take his bride home, the girl’s dad realised that she was too young and wanted his daughter to wait until she was 18 before leaving her parent’s home.
This angered the boy’s father, who in turn picked up an argument with the girl’s family.
The girl’s father tried reasoning with the boy’s family about how young she was and that she deserved to have a childhood, but soon arguments turned ugly. To end the fight, the girl’s father filed for a divorce.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has taken up the case and has threatened action against the parents of the both the boy and girl, while the state government has called an inquiry into the case.
The girl’s dad has, however, sought pardon on the grounds that he realised his folly and prevented his girl from entering into the relationship.
