Abu Dhabi: Drivers who violate safety laws more than once during National Day celebrations will have their driving licences seized for three months, the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police has warned.
Those who violate the law on car decorations once may face a fine of up to Dh2,000 and 12 black points. Their licences will be revoked if they accumulate 24 points by repeating the offence.
Acting Manager at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Violations Department, Captain Suhail Faraj Al Qubaisi, said licences may also be confiscated in case of repeat offences, which would raise the drivers’ black points to 24.

According to the law, if the limit of 24 black points is reached, the following penalties are applied: the driving licence is confiscated for three months for the first traffic violation; the driving licence is confiscated for six months for the second traffic violation; and the licence is confiscated for a year and is not returned until the driver passes a driving course at one of the accredited driving schools in the state for the third traffic violation.
Additionally, drivers are urged to refrain from reckless driving and any behaviour that disrupts roads and other drivers.
The police have already circulated a list of guidelines, which advise drivers to keep their licence plates visible at all times, and refrain from excessive honking. Captain Al Qubaisi said he hoped motorists would celebrate National Day in a civilised manner.
