Photos: At Least 13 Killed In Kano Beer Joint Bombing Of Last Night: Another Bomb Blast Prevented Today

Last night, an explosion rocked a beer joint in the Sabon Gari area of Kano, Kano State Nigeria.
The explosion killed at least 13, with several injured according to eyewitnesses. However, the Police said only four people (three men and a girl) died.
Residents heard a loud explosion around 9: 30pm Nigerian time.
Confirming the explosion, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba said a bomb placed in a car exploded too early as the bomber was likely targeting the restaurants and beer joints ahead of him on Gold Coast Street.
Minutes after the attack, security operatives arrived at the area and cordoned it off while rescue workers conveyed the injured and dead to the hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but it has the imprints of the north-eastern Nigeria based Boko Haram sect, which has carried similar attacks on beer joints in the past.
The most prominent of the sect’s attack on beer joints was the 2011 New Year’s Eve bombing of the Mammy Market at Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sabon Gari, an area populated by Christians and non-indigenes, has been the target of previous Boko Haram attacks; multiple blasts in July 2013 killed 24 people. Three months earlier, 25 people were also killed in the area by a suicide bombing of the bus station.

Nigeria Police says it foiled a second car bomb targeted at Kano, thank God that was averted!

The Nigeria Police Force today, Monday May 19 2014 announced the prevention of a bomb blast, after its men intercepted a car rigged with powerful explosives.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, the vehicle was recovered at Tafawa Balewa Street, Nasarawa area of Kano State, and has since been  deactivated by Police bomb disposal experts.”
“Kano police operatives acting on intelligence, tracked and recovered a Mitsubishi Station Wagon car, ash in colour with registration number Kano AE 756 GSW loaded with assorted gas cylinders, one container of fuel and other electrical components of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs),” Mba said.
The interception occurred less than a day after a car bombing of a beer joint on Middle Road, Off Gold Coast Street in Sabon Gari area of Kano last night. At least 13 people were killed in the attack.
