Photos: YAY! Twitter doubles its tweet limit to 280 characters for some users

Social network, Twitter has begun testing doubling the character limit of tweets with some accounts, stirring angry reactions from users.

The social network said it hoped the move would stop people having to 'cram' their thoughts into 140 characters.
But users have reacted fiercely to the news, with some claiming the site's concise posts are a large part of its appeal.
Some Twitter users reacted more positively, claiming the new limit cuts out time spent editing or chaining together several posts.

A number of people have reacted more positively, claiming the new limit cuts out time spent editing or chaining together several posts.
Even the Muppets' Kermit the Frog had his say, tweeting: '280 characters? Now @Twitter almost has as many characters as #TheMuppets!'

Twitter said it had found a small percent of Tweets sent in Japanese have 140 characters (only 0.4 per cent). But in English, a much higher percentage of Tweets have 140 characters (9 per cent), it said
