They are due to host the tournament early next year, but they have lodged an appeal with the Confederation of African Football – the organisers of the competition – to delay the event.
Several top Premier League stars are set to take part in the event – which spans between January 17 to February 8 – including Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Stoke’s Victor Moses, Swansea’s Wilfried Bony and Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse.
The plea comes from the Moroccan ministry of health, and a statement from the government reading; “to avoid events which involve those countries affected by the Ebola virus.”
More than 4,000 people have passed away already since the outbreak began to pick up speed in west Africa at the start of the year.
So far Morocco has been untouched by the virus, but the threat was enough for Guinea’s Lass Bangoura to return to Spain from an international training camp on Thursday.
Good one Morocco
