News: Australia shuts borders to Ebola-hit West African countries + Australian ISIS leader reported killed

Australia announced that it would temporarily shut its borders to people from countries suffering from Ebola. “We are not processing any application from these affected countries,” Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told parliament Monday. Australia will also cancel or refuse any non-permanent visas for people from Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. Permanent visa holders will have to submit to a 21-day quarantine before they depart for Australia, according to the new government guidelines. “The government’s systems and processes are working to protect Australians,” said Morrison. Australia has not had a single case of Ebola. Many opponents have urged the government to do more to help West Africa, which has lost nearly 5,000 lives to Ebola.

Australian terrorist and top ISIS operative Mohammad Ali Baryalei reportedly has been killed while working for the terrorist group on the Syria-Turkey border. Authorities in Australia were working on confirming the death Tuesday night. Baryalei has been described as the most senior Australian in ISIS, apparently holding a trusted position in the group's operational command. The former bouncer and part-time actor was said to be responsible for receiving new fighting recruits and facilitating their passage into Syria to join terrorist units. Authorities have said he facilitated the movement of up to half of the 60 Australians believed to be fighting with ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
