One of the most anticipated films worldwide, Half of a Yellow Sun, an adaptation of Chimamanda Adiche’s bestselling and award winning novel is presently screening at the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) and opened  in New York last Friday and today, Friday May 16, it debuts in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, a major character in the movie, Anika Rose Noni who played the character of Kainene said in a recent interview that she was excited playing the role of an Igbo woman. Speaking on the partial ban in Nigeria she said; “I say it’s disappointing. You can’t hide history. We want to see history and share history and talk about history so that you don’t get caught in the cycle of repetition because we are human and it is our tendency to repeat. We are at times wonderful, giving and kind and then at other times, we are atrocious and awful and inhumane. Those are the things we don’t want to repeat”. Anika is a Grammy award winner and an American singer cum actress. She starred in “Dream Girls”, “The Princess and The Frog”. She is presently nominated for a Tony award. The cast of the film directed by UK-based Nigerian playwright Biyi Bandele and produced by winner of an OSCAR and three BAFTAs, Andrea Calderwood and Yewande Sadiku include Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji, OC Ukeje, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle, John Boyega, Wale Ojo, Tina Mba, Zack Orji and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
