News & Photos: It's official: Lupita Nyong'o is dating Waving Flag rapper, K'naan

The Oscar-winning star of 12 Years A Slave Lupita Nyong'o is apparently off the market as Us Weekly reports that she has been seeing Somali-Canadian rapper K'naan since September last year. Lupita, who hails from Kenya, reportedly shares a lot in common with K'naan, including a preference for living in New York and a love for Africa. A source told the magazine; 'She loves his humanitarianism. They'd both passionate about African issues.'  
Lupita and K'naan are said to be taking their relationship nice and easy. Lupita has yet to be introduced to K'naan's two sons with his ex-wife Deqa Warsame. Lupita sparked talk of a romance after she was pictured embracing the musician the day after The Oscars in Los Angeles. She was spotted arm in arm with K'naan - whose real name Keinan Abdi Warsame- as she left a special post-Oscars interview on Live With Kelly & Michael on March 3. K'naan even held the actress' new Best Supporting Actress statue that she had won the night before for her role in 12 Years A Slave. Rapper K'naan fled his native Somalia just as Civil War broke out and refugeed to Canada when he was 13 years old. In an interview with Radar Online, the Wavin' Flag rapper said he had a tough time growing up in Canada after he moved from Somalia in the 90's, which led him to joining a gang; 'I learned to fire guns at the age of nine or so, but luckily [I] was not out killing people. We zigzagged the streets to escape those trying to kill us.' The rapper is now a reformed character and has a successful music career, with his song Wavin' Flag chosen as the official anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
