Jackson visited the Queen of Soul at her home in Detroit on Wednesday, two days after reports about her health struggle emerged. Jackson’s visit was originally reported to have taken place Tuesday, but the Detroit TV station says it actually happened Wednesday. Franklin’s latest health concerns were first reported Monday, with a source telling The Associated Press that the “Respect” singer is “seriously ill” and CNN reporting she was in hospice care at her home.
Jackson said he was “very sad” about the situation and also reflected on Franklin’s contributions to the civil rights movement during the Martin Luther King, Jr. era in a story published Wednesday by the Detroit Free Press. She did 11 concerts for free and hosted us at her home and did a fundraiser for my campaign,” Jackson recalled to the newspaper. “Aretha has always been a very socially conscious artist, an inspiration, not just an entertainer.” The legendary singer has had to cancel multiple concerts in recent years due to health issues.
Last November, her rep was forced to shoot down rumors she had died after they began circulating online.
Prayers up for Ms Aretha!
'Queen of Soul' Aretha Franklin gravely ill.
She's now at peace. No more pain. No more cancer.
