At least 20 people were killed late Sunday when suspected Islamist extremists stormed an upscale Turkish restaurant in the capital of Burkina Faso.
Gun battles continued throughout the night as security forces in Ouagadougou sought to rescue hostages held in the Aziz Istanbul restaurant, which is popular among foreign tourists. Authorities declared the incident over at 5 a.m. and said two gunmen were killed. Communication Minister Remi Dandjinou told journalists the victims were thought to include many tourists, with one identified as a French citizen. At least eight people were also injured in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Jihadis attacked a nearby cafe in January, killing 30.
