Shinawatra was facing a negligence meeting and a possible 10 years in prison on charges of corruption and nepotism (her family has not lost a general election in the South East Asian country since 2001).
While there are no official records of her leaving the country, reports suggest she skipped the meeting and flew to Dubai on Friday on a private jet, via Singapore.
There is a warrant for her arrest in Thailand.
Her brother Thaksin Shinawatra, another former Thailand prime minister, has been living in Dubai since 2008. He has a home in the exclusive Emirates Hills.
She will eventually seek asylum in the United Kingdom, according to REPORTS.
