News: ABU Kaduna Student Tests Negative To Ebola
The 19-year old law student of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) suspected to had contracted the deadly Ebola Virus Disease [EVD] has tested negative to the killer diseases.
The school authorities and the Kaduna State Government had sent the patient’s blood to Lagos for testing after he reportedly manifested some symptoms associated with the deadly virus while on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH).
The state Commissioner For Health, Thot Dogo, had disclosed that the result of the test was being expected on Wednesday afternoon (today).
But Ebola Alert, an authoritative evidence-driven group of volunteer professionals working on Ebola Virus Disease interventions in the country, siad that laboratory test had shown the student does not have the virus.
An official of the group, who simply identified himself as Ladi, said the test, concluded earlier on Tuesday night, came out negative.
Ladi said, “Yes, it is true that the result is negative. Whatever information Ebola Alert puts out is authentic.
“Reaching a diagnosis of Ebola is dependent on a laboratory test. However close it may be, it is not Ebola until it is Ebola”.
Just one week after the Federal government announced the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, reports reaching us indicate that a 19- year old student of Law at the Ahmadu Bello University has been diagnosed with the killer disease in Kaduna.
The Public Relations Officer, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, Bilyaminu Umar, who confirmed the case to Premium Times said the student was diagnosed at ABUTH, Shika, Zaria.
“Yes, there was a case of a suspected Ebola patient. He is with the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria and will be placed on isolation. I am out of town, but I will confirm details on my return from the trip,” he said.
