One of Nigeria’s most popular TV personalities Agatha Amata is stepping in a whole new direction.
Taking inspiration from Oprah Winfrey who also had a TV talk show for years and launched a television network OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), Agatha will debut Rave TV.
The host of “Inside Out” will unveil the station on Friday 8th August 2014 with the help of the Governor of Delta State Emmanuel Uduaghan and the First Lady of Lagos Abimbola Fashola.
The station will be located in Ilupeji, Lagos. There will be an array of different programs including movies, soap operas, talk shows, and documentaries.

News: Kerry Washington Blasts Beyoncé For Staying With Jay Z

Kerry Washington is reportedly disappointed in Beyoncé, who is putting money ahead of her pride. The 37-year-old ‘Scandal’ actress roasted the 32-year-old singer for staying with aging rapper Jay Z, 45, despite mounting evidence of his rampant cheating.

Emmy nominated TV star Kerry Washington has privately ripped the singer for not doing enough to empower young African American girls.
The 37-year-old star of the hit ABC show, who’s a political activist and outspoken feminist, “hates how Beyoncé relies on her body and sexual innuendo to sell records,” an insider told Dish Nation.
“Kerry thinks Beyoncé should spend less time shaking her booty and more time pushing other agendas, like the value of education and healthy eating, as well as promoting book reading.”

A teenager was electrocuted and died in her sleep while she was charging her iPhone 4s.

The 18-year-old, who has not been named, died in Xinjiang, on July 24.

The deceased's sister said she smelt burning when she returned to their home and found her sister lying dead in her bedroom with burns across her body. A broken iPhone was next to her.

It is not clear if the woman was using an authentic Apple charger, or a cheap counterfeit version which have been linked to other fatalities.

Experts from the Forensic Science Association of China said the teenager had livor mortis across her neck, hands and leg, and concluded that she'd died from electrocution, the Shanghaiist reported.

The teeanger's sister said online that the phone had been purchased in Urumqi and the retailer was now discussing compensating the family.

In July last year Air Stewardess Ma Ailun, 23, was killed by an electric shock when she answered a call on her iPhone 5 while it was recharging on a knock-off charger.

Not long after a 30-year-old Beijing man fell into a coma following electric shock from an iPhone.

His family also blamed the charger, which was not an official Apple product.

The cases prompted Apple to offer to replace counterfeit or imperoperly designed charging devices.

Apple products sell out quickly in China and the demand has led to factories churning out fake iPhones, iPads and iPods.

In 2011, 22 fake Apple stores were uncovered in one Chinese city, Kunming, alone.

While the horrific human impact of the Gaza conflict cannot be ignored, there is also damage being done in the Middle East's entertainment business.
Israel's TV industry has suffered an estimated loss of £15million since fighting broke out 23 days ago, but broadcasting giant Keshet does not want to interrupt the sixth series of Big Brother Israel.
With the show providing huge ratings for the channel, Keshet has decided to keep it on air and provide a bomb shelter for participants on the site in the village of Neve Ilan, west of Jerusalem.
Producers have installed alarms in the property that alert housemates to head for shelter - and they have already sounded twice within the first week of use, reported TMZ.
Ran Telem, Keshet’s vice president of programming, said the decision to keep the show - which has a 45 per cent audience share of Israeli households - on air was ‘really debated’ before being made.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: ‘The audience appreciates the break they get, so we try very hard despite the situation to keep it on the air.
'The contract we have with the viewers at home is that when there is a significant development, we return to the news telecast at once.’

But critics claim Keshet has only made the decision for profit at a time of crisis during the conflict, which has already claimed the lives of nearly 1,400 people, mostly civilians.
The show - which is known as 'HaAh HaGadol' in Hebrew - was more than halfway through its latest season when the war began earlier this month on July 8, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The conflict has already forced US productions such as FX's Tyrant and USA Network's Dig to move to Turkey and Malta respectively.
Meanwhile, broadcasters in Israel are losing huge amounts of money partly because news programmes are now dominating TV schedules.
It has been claimed that losses from the first two weeks of fighting stand at £7.8million for Keshet, and £6.5million for another of Israel’s leading media firms, Reshet.
Reshet vice-president Yael Gaoni told the Israel Hayom newspaper that the conflict was having an ‘immediate effect’ on the commercial television market in Israel.

News: Parents of Chibok girls still insist GEJ gave them money......N22.4m!!!

Contrary to claims by the Presidency, President Goodluck Jonathan offered money to the parents of abducted Chibok girls as well as those whose daughters escaped from the grips of their Boko Haram captors.

After three months of mounting criticism of his handling of the abduction crisis, Mr. Jonathan finally hosted the relatives of the still missing schoolgirls at the Presidential Villa, Abuja last week Tuesday.
Dauda Ilya, a spokesman for the Kibaku Area Development Association (KADA), which organized the parents’ trip to Abuja, stated yesterday at a media briefing in Abuja that the Nigerian president had given N22.4 million/$136,000 to the distraught parents.

Mr. Ilya’s statement contradicted a claim by Reuben Abati, the special adviser to the President on media, that Mr. Jonathan did not give money to the grieving parents when they visited.

“On the night of the 22nd July, 2014 at about midnight, the senior special assistant to the President on special duties, who had been coordinating the visit on the side of the Presidency, visited the hotel and told the 51 escaped girls who came that the Presidency sent them a token of N100,000 each and accordingly gave them the said sum without prior discussion with any KADA official or any other person in the community,” Mr. Ilya said.

According to him, Mr. Jonathan’s aide also “gave the sum of N200,000 each to 61 parents out of the 122 parents that came on the visit. 51 parents were given N100,000 each on the basis that the money given to him was not enough to go round at N200,000. The remaining 10 parents were not given any amount of money."

He added that a member of the House of Representatives representing the Chibok constituency also gave the parents the sum of one million naira.

“As for the money given to some parents back home in Chibok, it was the sum of N1,000,000 given to them by the Hon. Member of the House of Reps representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency which is the source of the alleged N7,000 given to parents in Chibok that were not part of the visit.”

News: Presidents of Liberia & Sierra Leone cancel US-Africa Leaders summit because of Ebola

President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has closed down all the schools in the West African country in an attempt to address the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

She also declared tomorrow, Friday, a work-free day to enable health workers in the country to disinfect and chlorinate all public facilities.
Sirleaf, who announced the measures in a nationwide, broadcast late Wednesday, also presented a National Action Plan against Ebola that would try to contain the spread of the disease. Her office said she was not only worried about taking care of those afflicted, but would focus of the goal of preventing new cases.
As part of the plan, government officials will no longer be allowed to travel unless it is “absolutely necessary and critical” and all non-essential staff — to be determined by the minister or head of an agency — have been placed on 30-day compulsory leave.
Sirleaf revealed that the Liberian government had provided an initial contribution of $5 million for the commencement of immediate implementation of the plan.
She also suspended her participation at the US-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington DC next week, and thus sent the Vice President, Joseph Boakai and a handful of officials to attend the summit on her behalf.

Last week, Liberia closed it borders with neighbouring countries, only leaving a   border entry points open. The nation’s bureau of immigration and naturalisation will intensify supervision and control of the border areas in conjunction with health authorities, to ensure strict adherence to announced preventive measures, including preliminary testing for fever.
“Other measures, without exceptions are that all schools are ordered closed pending further directive from the ministry of education," she said.
“All markets at border areas, including Foya, Bo Waterside and Ganta, are hereby ordered closed until further notice.
“As previously directed, video clubs and entertainment centres must have improved sanitation, including facilities for the washing of hands prior to entering and exiting as well as to reducing opening hours, and the number of individuals permitted to enter those facilities. All citizens are seriously advised to avoid public amusement and entertainment centres.
“When these measures are instituted, only health care workers will be permitted to move in and out of those areas. Food and other medical support will be provided to those communities and affected individuals.
“The ministry of health and relevant agencies are also to consider the cremation of all victims of the deadly Ebola virus. This measure is intended to avoid tampering with the dead and contaminating water sources."
At about the same time of Sirleaf’s address, President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, was declaring a state of emergency for Ebola and cancelled his participation at the US-Africa Leaders Summit.
“I hereby proclaim a State of Public Emergency to enable us take a more robust approach to deal with the Ebola outbreak," Reuters quoted him as saying in a speech late on Wednesday, adding that the measures would initially last between 60 and 90 days.

A teenage volleyball player has pleaded with her fans to focus on her sports skills rather than her doe-eyed good looks, saying the attention she receives is “a little bit much”.
Sabina Altynbekova, 17, plays for Kazakstan's youth volleyball squad, and became the focus of local media reports after she appeared at the nine-day Asian Under-19 Championships in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. One local newspaper devoted a 10-page spread to photos of the teenager.
Her coach has also complained that the reaction is making it difficult to run the team.
“It is impossible to work like this,” Nurlan Sadikov told Tengrin News in a quote translated by the Daily Mail. “The crowd behaves like there is only one player at the championship,” she added.
Since the event, a new Facebook fan page has attracted over 200,000 likes, and a Twitter account has over 29,000 followers. Meanwhile, bizarre YouTube videos of matches cut only to show Sabina in action, have garnered over a million views.
Following a barrage of photo collages made by fans, and even depictions of the teen as an anime-style cartoon, she has made a plea for fans to stop posting about her on social media websites.
Alongside popular Russian-language social media website VK, Altynbekova only uses Instagram. Over the weekend, she asked her followers to spread the word that any other accounts were fake.

News: GEJ To Travel With 73 Delegates To Washington DC, Drops Wife: READ WHY

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has dropped his controversial wife, Patience, from his 73-man delegation heading to Washington DC for the “U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit” which begins next Monday. 

Mr. Jonathan is billed to arrive in the US capital on Sunday, rolling in with one of the largest delegations at the three-day summit, but it is a trip governed by fear of the unknown, including possible uncomfortable encounters with members of the press, protesters and angry citizens.
Observers say the Nigerian leader’s decision to drop his wife from the trip stems from deep concern that she might be humiliated in Washington DC over her denunciation of the kidnap of hundreds of Nigerian school girls in Chibok, Borno State, in April.
Mrs. Jonathan and Kema Chikwe, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Women leader, were among those within top government circles who initially questioned and denounced the abduction story, claiming it was a farce.  A television appearance by Mrs. Jonathan went viral, and has become the butt of several spoofs on the Internet.  President Jonathan’s acceptance of the farce theory was responsible for the delay in rescue efforts that could have saved several of the girls.
Mrs. Jonathan is also widely remembered for leading a thorough humiliation of officials of the Government Girls Secondary School from where the girls were abducted, including the Principal, Mrs. Asaba Kwabura , who she ordered detained alongside Naomi Nyadar a lead campaigner for the “BringBackOurGirls” movement.

Presidency sources told SaharaReporters it is feared that Mrs. Obama, one of the best-known supporters of “BringBackOurGirls,” might not be favorably disposed to interacting with Mrs. Jonathan.
Meanwhile, it has also been learned that President Jonathan has himself had his request for a one-on-one meeting with President Obama turned down.
In a further reflection of the extent of the fear of the unknown during the trip, Mr. Jonathan has also turned down a request to be at a “solidarity rally” by a group of praise-singers who call themselves “The Diaspora Nigerians in America group,” scheduled for August 5 in front of the Nigerian Embassy.
A press statement issued by the group today confirmed Mr. Jonathan’s decision to bail out of the self-serving love-fest.
Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Gabriel Suswam of Benue, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, and Isah Yuguda of Bauchi will accompany President Jonathan to the United States.  Also on the entourage will be the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Youth Culture and Tourism, Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison Madueke.
Businessmen listed on the entourage include Femi Otedola, Wale Tinubu and Kola Adeshina of Sahara Energy.  The rest of the list is made up of aides, advisers and staff.
The Summit will end on Wednesday.
