Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment of an apparent drug overdose today, February 2nd. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news followed by confirmation from the New York Post revealing a drug connection, confirmed by New York police. The acting great was 46 years old and portrayed timeless roles in many beloved films including Almost Famous, The Big Lebowski, and Boogie Nights. Most recently, he starred in The Hunger Games series, and was met with overwhelming acclaim for his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2012 film, The Master. He also won a coveted Best Actor Oscar, for his performance of writer Truman Capote in 2005.Just last year Hoffman checked into and completed a detox program for his abuse of prescription drugs and dabbling with heroin. Until that stint, Hoffman had remained clean for 23 years and revealed to 60 minutes back in 2006 his initial encounter with drug abuse originated after graduating from New York University’s drama school. “I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old" said Hoffman. "You get panicked… and I got panicked for my life. It really was just that.” Hoffman was currently in the process of shooting two films, God’s Pocket, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. Currently there’s no word on how this will effect these pictures. The actor is survived by his two daughters, son, and his longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell. RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman.
