Joshua had clearly been rattled during the pulsating brawl after Ruiz sent him to the canvas twice in the third round as the chances of an almighty shock increased. And it was apparent by the end of the fifth round that Joshua was suffering psychologically and was in deep trouble as he asked trainer Rob McCracken: 'What round is it?' If Joshua appeared to recover throughout the fourth and fifth, in the sixth he again became hesitant even if there was little sign that he was about to be stopped. By the end of the sixth, Joshua was struggling with a bloodied nose after his Mexican opponent landed even more shots and asked his team: 'Why am I feeling like this?' The exchange was picked up by the large number of ringside microphones at Madison Square Garden and broadcast on worldwide television coverage.
At the end of the fifth round, a dazed Joshua turned round to ask his corner what round it was as he lost track.
