Audu Maikori, lawyer, founding CEO of Chocolate City Group and Nigerian music industry mogul, who was arrested Friday by the Nigeria Police on charges of alleged criminal conspiracy and incitement over the Southern Kaduna crisis has been released on bail by the Police, SIGNAL can report.
Mr. Maikori told SIGNAL on Saturday his release followed efforts by prominent Nigerians as well as extensive pressure mounted by Nigerian youths in the social media via the hashtag #FreeAudu, calling for his release.
“I was released on bail based on self-recognisance. I want to thank all those who were concerned about the issue of my arrest; prominent Nigerians, Nigerian youths in the social media, my colleagues in the entertainment industry and well-wishers who mounted pressure at relevant quarters for my release”, he said.
Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung was also reportedly at the Nigerian Police Force headquarters in Abuja on Saturday to make a case for his release.
More to come.
