News: Sheikh Mohammed praises role of social media as he passes 3m followers on Twitter

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum described social media such as Twitter as an “open parliament” as he passed three million followers on the channel.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai said social media had “removed all barriers” and helped the public to be part of the development of the country.
In his first tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said: “My social media followers exceeded 3M on Twitter, 2M on Facebook and 1M on both Instagram and Google+.”
He went on to say: “I extend my thanks to all followers and to everyone interacting with us through providing new comments, suggestions & ideas.
“Social media channels created new opportunities, removed all barriers & made the audience part of our development plans.
“Having a tremendous influence, today social media channels serve as an open parliament and cannot be ignored or misled.”
