Khloé Kardashian receives backlash after the reality television star posted a photo of herself wearing a Native American headdress on social media.
The famous sister was pictured wearing the head piece during North West’s festival-themed birthday party on Saturday. She posed for a light-hearted photo with the controversial accessory and posted the snap to Instagram for her 9.8 million followers to see.
“Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella!!!” she captioned the photo (below).
Despite its free-spirited caption, the image quickly generated harsh criticism from followers and continues to draw comments from all sides.
It seems stars will never learn when it comes to portraying Native American stereotypes. Pharrell Williams is the most recent celeb to receive backlash for his insensitive use of the controversial head piece. The singer wore a similar headdress on the July cover of Elle Uk.

People who understand where we are coming from and not calling us down for voicing our opinions, those are the people I respect. But you have just been telling us native people that we are wrong for saying this is cultural appropriation when you are not even part of our culture, so how the hell would you know? Oh, right. But in short the Europeans signed a treaty with the Aboriginal peoples that basically said they can't force their ways and religion on us. But of course, it was broken many times. Also, at the end of the eighteenth century they told us we were not allowed to practice our traditions, dances, language or anything, but then they finally allowed us to again. My grandmother and her brother were hit by the nuns just for speaking their own language and the only language they knew, but they HAD to go to school otherwise their father would go to jail. So now, you see these "hipsters" wearing these headdresses that are meant to be earned by men and rarely women. The white people wearing these don't even know what it's for they just think it's "cool" and "fashion" but it's really not. They are taking the meaning out of that sacred object and just using it as a fashion accessory. It doesn't matter if the person is part Native American, if they were, they would know not to wear this as a fashion accessory. Or if that person didn't mean any disrespect or if they appreciate the culture. They could have done it through art or actually took the time to learn about our culture through true aboriginal people. The men and chiefs who actually earned their warbonnet look at all these white people who wear the headdresses, with disgust. All you people most likely think us aboriginal people are a minority and that we are not important, but look up our history for goodness sake. We are just as important as these white people and you should respect our culture.
