A double from Lionel Messi a day after his 27th birthday inspired Argentina to a 3-2 win over African champions Nigeria and assured them of finishing top of Group F at the World Cup finals today, Wed June 25.
Nigeria has qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup thanks to Bosnia beating Iran, 3-1.
Argentina led by Lionel Messi who scored two goals ,one in the first few minutes and another just before the end of the first half on a free kick.
Lionel Messi becomes the first Argentinian player to score in all games at the group stage since 1958.
Ahmed Musa scored both of Nigeria’s convincing goals.
Nigeria will move on to the next stage of the World Cup to face France (most likely) in the elimination round.
