This "unidentified material" was found on the southern Australian coast around six miles from Augusta, around four hours drive from Perth. The local police were alerted and they have taken pictures of the material.
This was sent to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and Malaysian authorities to have a look at.
Investigations continue, but the ATSB are saying the more they examine it, the less convinced they are it is linked to MH370.
Western News Australia reports that the debris found on the south coast is metallic and around 2.5metres long.
WA Emergency Services Minister Joe Francis, a former submarine navigator, said it was possible the items found could have come from the missing flight.
"It wouldn't surprise me if sooner or later ... if there was debris floating, it would end up on the West Australian coast," he told ABC local radio in Perth.
"Weather systems in the southern hemisphere predominantly move in a clockwise direction, and this time of the year the Leeuwin Current is pretty much at its strongest.
"Anything in that area over 50 days travelling at two knots, say four kilometres an hour, sooner or later is likely to have been caught up in it [the current]."
Relatives of passengers and crew to be issued with death certificates from Malaysian government
The death certificates will open the door to financial aid for families and also allow any potential lawsuits against the airline to begin.
