New Audio: Kanye West debuts new song 'Wolves' ft Sia & Ghanaian-American rapper, Vic Mensa
While at the New York Fashion Week debut show for his new Adidas shoes, Kanye West played the first song from his still-untitled 7th solo LP. “Wolves,” which features Chicago rapper Vic Mensa and Australian singer Sia, is a lush, expansive five-minute affair, heavy on 808s & Heartbreak-era Autotune and maternal advice.
Completely devoid of rapping, “Wolves” instead trades in Icarus myths (courtesy of Vic’s developing singing voice) and hushed warnings. Third-person pleas to “calm down” are probably not going to be heeded, but as Cam might say, Kanye really means it.
Since breaking through nationally with longtime friend and collaborator Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa has been following his more unconventional impulses to their natural conclusion; he has done formidable work of late with Canadian electronic DJ Kaytranada. Sia most recently performed at the 57th annual Grammy Awards.
The song is produced by Cashmere Cat and Sinjin Hawke, each of whom expressed their excitement as soon as footage leaked:
