Photos: OAU, Ile Ife Shut Down Over Tuition Protest

Following violent demonstrations at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, the administration this evening announced an indefinite shutdown of the institution and ordered students to vacate its premises by Thursday afternoon.
A statement signed by D. O. Awoyemi, Registrar and Secretary to the university council cited “persistent disruption of normal activities and peace on campus as a result of violent demonstrations by students, led by the Student Union Executive,” as the rationale for the decision.
“Consequently, all students are directed to vacate their Halls of Residence and the University premises immediately and not later than 12 noon on Thursday, 19th June, 2014,” the statement said.  “Parents are hereby enjoined to ensure that their children/wards comply with this directive immediately.”
The university student had embarked of protests against tuition fee hikes introduced by the management of the university in May 2014.

  1. From what I've seen so far though, there hasn't been any form of violence whatsoever. I know this is a form of trick from the selfish beings calling themselves the school authority. They only have the right to shut down the school if the protest goes on non stop for three consecutive days which never happened, they have balls to make press release and lie against people fighting for the interest of all.the same balls that wasn't strong enough to make them wait on campus! All they can do is lie and, increase fees unnecessarily and refuse to pay workers' salaries. From what i've been hearing, the school has been in that state for years without any reasonable change(so much for the increment of the acceptance fee) and the state of the halls of residence is enough proof to me.As if waiting at home for almost a year isn't enough, now it's indefinite strike. There is God #Oausaysno #teamoau #omolemustgo
