Plastic surgery made Andressa Urach famous. But it also nearly killed the Brazilian "Miss Bum Bum" runner-up. Once nicknamed "Beanpole" for her lack of curves, the mother-of-one became a reality TV bombshell in Brazil with the help of silicone implants, anabolic steroids, a nose job, and gel and botox injections.
The 27-year-old, who is also known for claiming to have slept with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo while he was with Irina Shayk, became an outspoken advocate of plastic surgery.

"There are plenty of ugly women," she said last year. "If you have the money, you can be beautiful. This pretty face you see here, my dear, it costs some."It has cost her more than money.

In November, Urach went into septic shock and was placed on life support after a botched operation to pump up her posterior even more. She was given a 200 times higher dose of the silicone gel Hydrogel than the government allows.

"The hydrogel was not absorbed by my body and started to harm me," she said at the time. "Now I've discovered that the PMMA is sticking to my muscles and causing the tissue to rot."She was in intensive care for a month, with concerns that her rotten leg would have to be amputated.

"I put that poison in my body, mostly because of having too much vanity," she said after her release from hospital. Now, she has appeared on television warning women against plastic surgery. In the interview, she said, she blames "society, which unfortunately holds a standard of beauty in which you have to be perfect".

Of her wounded leg, which was still oozing blood through her skirt during the interview, she said: "I hope that these wounds at least serve as a warning to other women."With about 1.5 million procedures performed each year, Brazil has the highest rate of cosmetic surgery of any country in the world.
