News: France beats Nigeria 2-0 to reach #WorldCup2014 quarter finals

France make it through to the quarter-final stage with a 2-0 win over Nigeria.
It took 80 minutes for France to grab the opening goal through Paul Pogba before Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead late into injury time.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud had the first chance for France but his effort sailed hopelessly wide of the target.
Nigeria looked bright in the opening exchanges, with Stephen Keshi’s side looking very comfortable on the ball.
Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike thought he had put the Super Eagles in the lead when he tapped in Ahmed Musa’s dangerous cross.
Pogba then had the best chance of the half when he combined well with Mathieu Valbuena to volley towards goal.
Lille and Nigeria ‘keeper Vincent Enyeama was equal to Pogba’s effort to keep the scores level.
Tottenham shot stopper Hugo Lloris was called into action as half time loomed near when he parried a venomous strike from Emenike.
Both sides started after the interval in a cautious manner but Stoke City and Nigeria forward Peter Odemwingie forced a save from Lloris with a long distance strike just after the hour mark.
France then took control of the game and PSG middleman Yohan Cabaye struck the cross bar from the edge of the box on 76 minutes.
Nigeria ‘keeper Enyeama was in inspired form and he continued to keep his side in the game when he tipped Karim Benzema’s effort over the bar from a Valbuena free-kick.
However, after all the great saves from the Super Eagles goalkeeper, it was Enyeama’s mistake that led to the opening goal.
Juventus midfielder Pogba put Les Bleus in the lead when he headed into an open net following a blunder from Enyeama.
Substitute Antoine Griezmann gave Deschamps’ side an extra dimension in attack and after forcing a good save on 83 minutes, the Real Sociedad winger did manage to get on the score sheet in injury time when he beat the ‘keeper to the ball to poke into the net and end all hopes for Nigeria.
France will now face either Germany or Algeria in the quarter-finals which take place on Friday.
