News: Man ends life after learning fiancée was breastfed by his mum

A Saudi man poured petrol on his body and set himself on fire after discovering that his new fiancée was considered like his sister as she was breastfed by his mother when she was a baby, according to a local newspaper.

The man, in his 20s, was rushed to hospital in the southern province of Jazan with severe burns but died later, Sharq Arabic language daily said.

“Police men were told that he committed a suicide after learning that the girl he was engaged to was like his sister as she was fed by his mother when she was a baby,” the Arabic language daily said.

Many people in conservative Saudi Arabia and other Moslem countries believe a baby breastfed by a woman not his mother is considered like her own child, hence he or she can not marry one of that family members.
