Employees working in both the public and private sector in the UAE will be given Thursday January 1 as an official paid holiday, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Labour has declared the day a paid holiday for all private sector employees to celebrate the New Year, news agency WAM reported.
The announcement came in a statement issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour.
Separately, a statement said employees of federal ministries and related entities will also be given paid leave on January 1 as offices will be closed for the day to mark the New Year.
The announcement was made in a circular issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.
