Photos: U.S & Allies Bomb ISIS In Syria

The U.S. war against ISIS has begun in Syria. On Monday night, the United States—along with Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—launched cruise missiles and precision-guided bombs around Raqqa and along Syria’s border with Iraq. Three other ISIS strongholds (Dair Elzur, Hasakah, and Abu Kamal) were also targeted. The Pentagon said the strikes “destroyed or damaged” multiple ISIS targets, such as “fighters, training compounds, headquarters and command and control facilities, storage facilities, a finance center, supply trucks and armed vehicles.” The U.S. also launched on its own eight air strikes west of Allepo targeting the "Khorosan Group," a network of “seasoned Al Qaeda veterans” that was planning “imminent attack against the United States and western interests,” according to a Pentagon statement. There are not yet accurate numbers on terrorist or civilian casualties, though Abu Khalil, the pseudonym for a Syrian activist, said most civilians were in their homes or basements during the pre-dawn attacks.
