News: Michelle Obama To Deliver Special Remarks At Maya Angelou's Private Memorial Tomorrow

A private memorial service for deceased author and civil rights activist Dr. Maya Angelou will take place this Saturday morning at Wake Forest University’s Wait Chapel.
It was announced on Thursday that the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, will be in attendance and would also be delivering special remarks in honour of the prolific writer.
The general public will be able to live-stream the memorial service thanks to special measures taken by the school.
Angelou first began her long relationship with Wake Forest University when during her first visit in 1973. Following her very first speaking engagement she then went on to teach several humanities classes and in total dedicated 32 years to the institution.
“She devoted her life at Wake Forest to creating a love of language and a keen awareness of the power of literature and learning, and generations of Wake Forest students have lived richer lives for her teaching and guidance…Maya Angelou has been a towering figure — at Wake Forest and in American culture. She had a profound influence in civil rights and racial reconciliation. We will miss profoundly her lyrical voice and always keen insights,” Wake Forest President Nathan Hatch explained.
As an author Angelou published more than 30 books of fiction and poetry and 6 autobiographical books, including Pulitzer Prize winning “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” In 2012, she was named one of the top 10 most famous college professors by Business Insider.
Maya Angelou died on Wednesday May 28 in her Winston-Salem home. She was 86 years old.
Angelou's family will announce additional celebrations of the author's life at a later date.
