News: What Governor Fashola said on his 51st birthday yesterday

The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, celebrated his 51st birthday yesterday Saturday, June 28 2014 and urged residents to be vigilant, particularly after Wednesday’s controversial Apapa car explosion. The governor said this while receiving a birthday present from the ‘Fountain of Life Church’. Its main auditorium, owned by Pastor Taiwo Odukoya in Ilupeju, was commissioned by Fashola on the same day. Bishop David Oyedepo, the Minister for Communication and Technology Dr Omobola Johnson and other dignitaries were also in attendance.
In his address the governor okayed the residents to engage any stranger in their neighbourhood, in order to learn the reason for person’s visit to the community. He also added that if Lagosians are vigilant and adaptive to their community, the challenges of insecurity would end.
“We must no longer keep quite. I am sure that if we do these simple things, all will be well with us,” he concluded.
The governor has further tasked the residents to live their lives in peace and harmony, despite any possible difficulties.
“By our action we will show that we have voted to live together; to live in peace and to respect one another’s choices. And it is from that respect that we can earn trust of one another and keep this state together.”
Speaking about the roles of religious organisations Fashola noted that they should be considered as partners of the government in liquidating poverty, creating new jobs and ensuring development and growth of the economy.
“This is the partnership that must exist between the government and the people of different faiths,” the governor concluded.
Governor Fashola had been also congratulated on his birthday during a meeting with the students of the Nigerian Society for the Blind, Oshodi.
Fashola reminded of his commitment to assist the visually impaired, adding that the state government allocated about N51 million into the construction of the vocational centre for them.
