According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department records, Nick Reiner was taken into custody late Sunday and booked into jail. He's being held on $4 million bail.
Reiner was the director of several classic Hollywood movies, including This Is Spinal Tap, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me and Misery.
As an actor, Reiner was best known for playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the iconic sitcom All in the Family, alongside Archie Bunker.
Singer Reiner was a photographer and producer.
According to a police source who spoke to the Associated Press, investigators believe the couple suffered brutal stab wounds and were found with their throats slit.

Reiner and Singer's daughter, Romy, who lives just across the street, is said to have made the harrowing discovery of her murdered parents when she arrived at their sprawling six-bedroom estate.
Romy, 28, has two brothers: Nick, 32, a screenwriter who has struggled with drug addiction and bouts of homelessness, and Jake, 34, who is a news reporter in Houston, Texas.
The motive remains unclear, though the killings reportedly followed a family argument.
