“The installation of the system started in August 2017 and continued over phases until the entire fleet of Dubai Taxi had been covered,” said director of transportation systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency Khaled Al Awadi. “RTA is keen on introducing state-of-the-art facilities for the comfort, security and satisfaction of clients, which ranks high on RTA’s priorities.” Al Awadi also added: “It also prompts them to stick to exemplary attitudes when dealing with taxi riders.” The initiative is all in line with RTA’s strategic goal of ‘People’s Happiness.’

More than 10,000 taxis throughout Dubai now have surveillance cameras
More than 10,000 taxis throughout Dubai now have surveillance cameras, thanks to the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) plans and goal of Dubai Government’s Smart City initiative.
The entire Dubai taxi fleet has now have been fitted with security cameras to monitor the conduct and compliance of taxi drivers with the ethical and professional standards of their occupation, according to RTA.
The system will automatically turn on once a customer steps in the taxi, and will remain recording throughout their journey.
Camera feed will then be examined by the RTA.
