Photos: Flu kills a 20 y.o mother of 2, Alani Murrieta

A young mom-of-two from Phoenix Arizona died suddenly just one day after contracting the flu on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Alani Murrieta, 20, went home from work early on Sunday because she felt unwell. Her sister took her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with the flu, given medication and sent home to rest, reported Fox News.

Hours later Murrieta’s condition continued to deteriorate and she started to struggle to breathe. Her mother then rushed her to the hospital.
Doctors said her flu had developed into pneumonia and everything went downhill from there. She was placed on a ventilator but her heart stopped and she passed away shortly afterward.
“They were trying to resuscitate her, and they tried for several minutes and they told my sister there was nothing else they could do, that she was gone,” Alani’s aunt Stephanie Gonzales told Fox.
Gonzales said Murrieta had no pre-existing condition.
Her family and friends are still coming to terms after her sudden death.
“Never in a million years would we have thought that we would have lost her that day like this,” Gonzales said.
Murrieta’s aunt has set up a GoFundMe page to help the family raise money for the funeral.
Murrieta was a mother of two young boys, 2-year-old AJ and 6-months-old JR.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 50,000 people in the United States die from pneumonia each year.
