“Let’s start 2018 off right!” Madonna, 59, captioned an Instagram post Wednesday. “I’m challenging you to all to stand up, come together and be the change you want to see in the world.” She continued, “This year we’ll begin by building 4 brand new schools in the Kasungu District of #Malawi with @RaisingMalawi and @buildOn!!”
The new construction makes 14 schools in the region that will help thousands of kids, she added. Madonna co-founded the Raising Malawi foundation in 2006. She’s been dubbed a “daughter” of the nation as she’s adopted four children from the region: daughter Mercy James, 11, son David Banda, 12, and 5-year-old twin girls Estere and Stella.
In July, Madonna opened The Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in the small country.
“When you look into the eyes of children in need, wherever they may be, a human being wants to do anything and everything they can to help, and on my first visit to Malawi, I made a commitment that I would do just that,” Madonna said at the time.
