A Ghanaian 'big' girl, Nayele Ametefe also known as Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, who is said to be highly placed and living very large in Ghana has been arrested at Heathrow Airport, London this month for drugs. Nayele was arrested shortly after arriving on a flight from Accra, Ghana, in a business class on the 10th of November, 2014.
Nayele who was arrested on Monday, November 10, was charged to court the following day, Tuesday, November, 11th, 2014, for attempting to import a class A drug. She was however remanded in custody until her next appearance at Isleworth Crown Court on the 27th of this month.
In this case the statements from the authorities differ when it comes to the Austrian lady who was caught in London. She is Ghanaian born and the lady pulled out her Ghanaian diplomatic passport to help her gain smooth entry with her stash.
There were 10 packets in the case, which is the equivalent of 5 million euros, in her carry on suitcase causing a lot of commotion at Heathrow airport.
The mysterious dealer pulled out her diplomatic passport but it didn`t help her much. Then she pulled out her red white coloured EU passport which was issued in Linz in 2010 . But the Austrian identity didn`t help her get pass the aviation security either. After which a third document appeared which made the security even more more anxious.
Later on, the Ghanaian government was compelled by public pressure to confirm the arrest but was reluctant to confirm issuing the diplomatic passport which the opposition sees as a government cover up, accusing the Ghana government of trying desperately to sweep the case under the carpet!
“You could be looking at a well known dealer with connections to well connected politicians at the Presidency ,who flies in business class frequently and landed in one of the most strictly guarded airports in the world, this time with 12.5 kilos of cocaine thinking she would be safe. I wonder why?” said an investigator to the Krone.
So far, the British investigators are tight-lipped, refusing to reveal any details.
However, the governing board of Ghana’s anti-drug agency, the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), has been dissolved.
However, the governing board of Ghana’s anti-drug agency, the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), has been dissolved.
No official reason has been given for the decision of president John Dramani Mahama, to dissolve the board.
But the dissolution follows brazen exportation of 12.5 kilograms of cocaine through the Kotoka International Airport by a Ghanaian/Austrian lady, Nayele Ametefeh.
She was arrested by port security at Heathrow Airport in London on November 10 this year with the drugs in her hand luggage.
Following public outcry over the brazen nature of her act and suspicions of official complicity, NACOB issued a statement signed by its Deputy Executive Secretary, Richard Nii Lante Blankson, saying, “it is worthy to note that Ms. Nayele Ametefe travelled on an Austrian passport number P4187659 and not on Ghanaian Diplomatic passport as being speculated. She also had in her possession an ordinary Ghanaian passport number G0364497 issued on 3rd August, 2012.”
The statement claimed that Nayele “was arrested on the 10th of November, 2014 through the collaborative effort of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) and its British partners.”
But this was doubted by many including Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane who said, until proven otherwise, he didn’t believe the claims of NACOB were true.
The president followed this up with the dissolution of NACOB’s governing board.
According to a release issued by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani, further actions “will follow in due course”
