A man has been arrested for allegedly claiming he could save marriages using leg hair, a pair of underpants and his “magic” powers.
The Arab conned unhappy women out of tens of thousands of dirhams after they came to him for help, according to police, who say he asked for up to Dhs30,000/$8,220.Police said he asked the women to bring a sample of leg hair from their husband along with his underwear.
Colonel Abdullah Rashid, head of anti-economic crimes department at Dubai Police, told 7DAYS his team received information that the alleged conman deceived a series of women.
The man was arrested by police after they sent in an undercover female officer posing as an unhappy wife.
“He spoke with her and promised to solve the problem after claiming that genies will help her,” Rashid said.
“He asked her to bring a hair of her husband, his underwear and Dhs10,000/$2,740 to make a magic bottle of water that would solve the problem.”
Police said an examination of the man’s mobile phone turned up messages in which he asked his victims to bring the materials and money, ranging from Dhs10,000/ to Dhs30,000/$8,220.
“He was giving them a bottle of water with a strange mixture inside it and asked them to mix it with a drink and serve it to the husband or to place it under the bed,” Rashid said.
Police said the man confessed, saying that he had been practising his ‘magic’ for a year and that the women who came to him encouraged him to carry on.
“People must be more aware that he was deceiving them – if he has special powers then he could use them for his own benefit,” Rashid said.
