A 16-year-old high school student from Virginia died just moments after completing her goal and finishing a half marathon.
Cameron Gallagher, a swimmer and volleyball player, finished her first 13.1 mile run in two hours and 19-minutes. Elated after crossing the finish line, which she spent months training for, Cameron collapsed and later died at a Virginia Beach hospital.
Her father, though devastated, opened up about his loss, but also about the comfort he feels knowing that she died surrounded by family and friends while doing what she loved.
Before collapsing, Cameron said she felt faint. She was treated at a first aid tent near the finish line before being rushed to the hospital, however, doctors were unable to revive her.
A cause of death has not been released. Her parents told reporters her death was likely due to cardiac arrest.
May her soul R.I.P.
How sad...:(
