Photos: Meet the 5th President of Senegal, 44 year old Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye

Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye has been elected as the fifth President of Senegal at the age of 44.

His election in the first round of voting, during his inaugural participation in a presidential election, distinguishes him as the youngest candidate to secure such a victory in the country’s electoral history. 

The president of Senegal (French: Président du Sénégal) is the head of state and head of government of Senegal. 

In accordance with the constitutional reform of 2001 and since a referendum that took place on 20 March 2016, the president is elected for a 5-year term, with a limit of two consecutive terms.
