A cobra snake escaped from the trunk of an Egyptian taxi, attacked the driver and led to a fatal car crash killing four passengers, local media have reported.
The driver of the cab had agreed with the co-owner of the van to transport the cobra to him from Alexandria to Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, in northern Egypt.
The highly venomous snake had been incased in a carton but had managed to escape and crawl under the car’s brushes. It slithered out got by the driver’s gas pedal and attacked him.
The driver jumped out of the taxi minibus, with the vehicle – containing four passengers – then smashing into a concrete barrier and into another car.
The driver and four passengers were killed in the incident.
During the investigations, the families of the victims said, had it not been for his death, the driver would have been charged with murder, because he was aware of the severity of the “venomous cobra snake” inside the car.
It is not known if the family knew of the snake’s presence when they took the taxi in June.
All the people in the vehicle – including the driver - were killed, Youm 7 Newspaper reported.
The victims were Taha Abdel Ghaffar Khalifa, his wife Sundus Nasr Issa, Nashwi Saeed Sharsher, and her elderly aunt Zainab Nawwar.
The car smashed into a concrete barrier and the snake tried to escape, but onlookers were able to catch and kill it.
