Justice Saliu Saidu of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a financier of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

News: YAY! Ride The Dubai Tram For Just Dh3

Tickets for the Dubai Tram will cost Dh3, irrespective of the distance travelled.

The 10.6-km tramway, which is on track to open on November 11, is connected to Dubai's automated fare collection system, Nol.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had earlier said that the fare for the tram will be calculated based on Dubai's existing zonal fare structure, but those plans seem to have changed as, according to the existing fare structure, travel within a zone costs Dh2.3.
"Tickets for a ride on the tram will cost Dh3, whether a person travels between two stations or rides through all the stations. I think this is one of the cheapest fares for trams when you compare with other cities," said Abdul Mohsin Younus, CEO of RTA's Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, speaking to Gulf News on the sidelines of a workshop for representatives of hotels located along the tramway.

Luminaries of the fashion and entertainment worlds were attending a private funeral Monday for legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.

Barbara Walters was seen arriving at a church on Manhattan's Upper East Side, as well as fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and her husband, Barry Diller.

De la Renta died late last month at his Connecticut home at the age of 82, following a battle with cancer.

Fans and photographers were kept behind police barricades that stretched a city block at the large, imposing church on Park Avenue. 

Fellow designers Valentino, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger came to the service to pay their respects, and fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz was also in attendance.

While de la Renta's close friend Sarah Jessica Parker is currently filming her new movie in Italy, her husband Matthew Broderick was seen arriving this morning at the funeral in her place.

News: Grandfather released from Arab Emirates jail after taking picture of 'no photography' sign

The elderly professor languishing in an Abu Dhabi jail for taking photos in a restricted area has been convicted and fined and is on his way back home to the U.S.

Architect Dr Alan Black, 70, was jailed for a month and investigated by state security services in the United Arab Emirates despite protesting his innocence and suffering life-threatening health problems.

The professor, an avid amateur photographer, said he had been taking pictures of Abu Dhabi on one of his morning walkabouts while attending a conference in the city.

But on Monday an Abu Dhabi court brought charges of taking photos in a restricted area - a crime which can be punished by up to five years in jail - and fined him $136 before releasing him yesterday.

Photos: Dubai's Plan For The World's Tallest Twin Towers Unveiled

A new announcement came this week from co-developers Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties. Their next big project on the horizon is Dubai Creek Harbour–a 1,482 acre site including a pair of towers that they hope will be the world’s tallest twinned skyscrapers.

The area planned for Dubai Creek Harbour is three times the size of Emaar’s current Downtown Dubai development, home of the Burj Khalifa, which Emaar also developed. Its location would be next to the ‘Ras Al Khor’ wetlands on the city’s waterfront at The Lagoons. With six other structures planned in addition to the twin skyscrapers, the project will also include retail, luxury hotels, and an estimated 39,000 residential units.

A statement released by Emaar says: “Planned on an open site, Dubai Creek Harbour will combine the city with the natural contours of the creek. With no legacy ties to infrastructure, this new Dubai will leapfrog many of the world’s other global cities.” The developer released its design concepts and layout without disclosing who the architects will be, though units from the first planned residential tower will hit the pre-sale market in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London and Moscow on November 1 regardless. This first residential tower will be 40-stories, with one, two and three-bedroom units ranging from 900 to 2, 150 square feet.
