Naomi Oni, the victim of a vicious acid attack which left her facially scarred for life has revealed she has started dating again - and that she is ready to find love.

Naomi Oni first hit the headlines in 2012, when acid was thrown over her face, head and body by her former friend Mary Konye as she walked home from work. The devastating attack, which happened as she made her way through Dagenham, burned off the now 22-year-old's eyelids, eyebrows and some of her hair. She was left disfigured, scarred for life.
Since then, surgeons have painstakingly rebuilt her features and it's given her a new lease on life - so
much so, she has even started dating again.

While her recent relationship didn't work out, Naomi explains that she and the man in question are still friends and that the relationship really boosted her confidence.
Speaking to Closer magazine about her date, Naomi said:

'He said I was gorgeous and completely took me by surprise - he approached me in the street and said he'd read about my story and thought I was so inspirational that he wanted to take me out. Things didn’t work out with the guy I was seeing and we’re just friends, but it’s boosted my self-esteem. 

I'm enjoying being single at the moment but I'm ready to fall in love again with the right person.

Naomi also says she is glad that her former friend got a long prison term but adds that it doesn't change what happened.
She told Closer:

'When I saw my face, I couldn’t stop crying. I thought, "Who’s going to want to marry me like this?" I felt so low, I didn’t want to live.'

Despite her ordeal, Naomi is set on pursuing a career within the fashion and beauty industry and is enjoying single life.
She added:

'The guy I was seeing looked past my scars to the person I am inside. It made me realise the attack doesn’t have to ruin my life.'

Mary Konye, 22, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday for hurling acid in the face of her friend, Naomi Oni, while wearing a Muslim veil.
Miss Oni was left scarred for life after suffering serious burns on her face and chest following the incident in Dagenham, east London, on December 30 2012.

News: Update: Acid Attack Victim Naomi Oni Weeps In First TV Interview After Her Friend Was Found Guilty

 

Acid attack victim, 21 years old Naomi Oni broke down during her first television appearance since her friend 21 years old Mary Konye was found guilty of throwing acid at her face out of envy.
Speaking on This Morning today, Naomi revealed she even contemplated suicide over the false claims that she had poured the acid over herself. She said:  

'I was told there was no way of finding who this person was and after being questioned by the police and realising they were looking at me, trying to say that I done it to myself, I thought this is not going to happen. I'm not going to sit there and let them tell me that.

Recalling how her 'friend' acted throughout her ordeal, Miss Oni said:  

'The morning of the day it happened. I remember that she messaged me and I spoke to her in the evening and told her what happened. She seemed shocked and told me she wanted to
come and see me in hospital. 

When I first had some surgery, I remember crying on the phone to her asking "who would do this to me, who hates me? I would never wish this on my worst enemy". She told me not to worry, that I'd be okay and she even attended my surprise birthday party and got me flowers and a gift card. She sat beside me and cried and everything.

How do I feel about her now? I think she's a sad person. I think I will always be the person I was and no one can stop me from that.

News: Mary Konye guilty of acid attack on Naomi Oni

A young woman from London has been warned she faces prison after being found guilty of throwing acid in a friend's face because she once called her ugly. Mary Konye, 21, attacked Naomi On in December 2012 while disguised in a Muslim veil. Get the story HERE.

Ms Oni, who was 20 at the time of the attack, was on her way home from work at Victoria's Secret lingerie shop in Westfield Stratford, east London, when Konye, wearing a niqab, threw the corrosive liquid at her.
She was left with serious burns on her head, neck, arms, legs and body. She was scarred for life, and required skin graft surgery to cover the burns.
She was five minutes from her home in Dagenham.
The jury at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that, following the attack, Konye pretended to give Ms Oni a shoulder to cry on.
The court heard that the day after the attack, Konye sent a mobile phone message to her friend, who was in hospital receiving treatment, saying “OMG, I can't believe it.”
The victim burst into tears as she left the courtroom and was hugged by family and friends.
Her said as they left court that they were “glad that a truthful verdict had been reached”.
Dressed in black, Konye remained calm as the jury of eight men and four women returned unanimous their verdict.
She will be sentenced on 7 March, and Judge David Radford said: "I should make clear that, in my judgment, this is a case that will, in all likelihood, need a substantial custodial sentence.
"It is inevitable, but it won't be dealt with until I have received those (pre-sentence) reports."
Speaking outside court afterwards, Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams said it had been a “serious, horrible offence which required a degree of planning and calculation”.
He told reporters that witnesses had testified in the court that the attack had been planned over the course of two years.
He said: "Mary Konye has had to purchase, at some point, some sulphuric acid.
“She has prepared for this over a number of months, even years, all resulting from a trivial, insignificant argument that everybody has in their everyday lives."
He commended Ms Oni as "a very brave woman and one I have great sympathy for."
Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor in London,  who described the attack as "extremely brutal," said: "Konye has now been brought to justice and must face the full consequences of her appalling actions.
“I would to like praise Naomi's courage and dignity in giving evidence during this trial."

News: Naomi Oni Arranged For Acid To Be Poured On Her To Achieve Fame & Fortune - Mary Konye

Victoria's Secret lingerie store worker was today forced to deny throwing acid in her own face to gain fame and fortune by her friend Mary Konye.
Naomi Oni, 21, was accused of setting up the ATTACK and asking friend Mary Konye, also 21, to 'play the stalker' and throw the corrosive liquid over her.
The prosecution claim Konye donned a full niqab before following Oni as she made her way home, only to douse in sulphuric acid which has left her disfigured for life.
But the defence say it was part of an elaborate plan to become rich and famous.
That Naomi hatched a plan with Konye to pour acid over herself to improve her future prospects.
According to the Defence:

'You, Naomi formalised a plan in which you would become the victim of a random acid attack in the hope that you would receive the same type of fame and fortune as Katy Piper had.
You were of the view that Katy Piper still looked lovely after the attack but that you would need something else to support the attack because the police wouldn't believe you and that was where you brought Mary Konye into it. 

'Your play was, I suggest, that you would make an allegation that you had been followed and attacked and you wanted Mary Konye to be part of that - you wanted her to follow you and also, initially, wanted her to throw the acid.
She absolutely refused to do that and you said that you were actually going to throw the acid yourself towards your neck area.'

Miss Oni replied: 'That is very untrue.'

Konye stalking Naomi the night of the acid attack

Miss Oni described how she was oblivious to her attacker as she walked home from work, but suddenly felt a big splash on her face and ran home screaming 'acid, acid'.

Miss Oni admitted deleting her internet search history on her mobile phone a day before police were due to come and collect it.
She said she felt 'violated' and didn't want the police going through her personal data so she decided to delete the history on her iPhone.
Naomi Oni also admitted being paid £2,000 by The Sun newspaper for an interview as well as appearing on ITVs This Morning programme and being paid a sum of £1,000.
She also appeared on a German television programme and was paid around £1200 as well as being approached by the BBC for her story.
Describing how she felt after the attack,  Naomi said:

"Am I a bad person? Why has this happened to me? I work hard ... No one’s going to marry me now."

The court heard that she and Konye had a ‘rocky relationship’ and had stopped speaking from April to September 2011 after a row over Konye sending text messages to Miss Oni’s boyfriend.
Miss Oni said:

"I remember asking her why she wanted to do that and I said she’s a monster or something like that.
 'I said you are a monster, you are  an ugly monster. I remember us insulting each other’s looks.
 'She also told me she was so angry she wanted to throw acid at me, but she was advised not  to by her friend. Her friend said, “That’s stupid, you could go to jail for that”.’ 

Asked what she thought at the time about the threat, Miss Oni said:

‘I thought  it was quite bizarre, I felt insulted again. 'But she seemed like she wasn’t serious. I thought she was trying to frighten me a little bit.’ 

She also said that Katie Piper – the model who had acid thrown in her face by an accomplice of her ex-boyfriend – was her inspiration, adding:

I remember being deeply moved by her story and me and Mary discussed it.’

Mary Konye posted a picture of horror film villain Freddy Krueger online and wrote, ‘She better not mess with me or I’ll make her face look like this’ before the attack, the court heard yesterday.

Naomi's lawyer said in court today
'Kamilah (Mary's friend) states that the defendant was insecure about her looks and that Naomi had insulted her. And there was a particular insult that was used, and a reference to a particular horror film and a reference to a particular disfigured character in the horror film - "Wrong Turn". It involves cannibal characters and disfigured characters, one in particular called a Wrong Turn.
'And Naomi had been rude to the defendant and said she looked like a Wrong Turn, that particular insult stung Mary Konye. Kamilah states that the defendant would complain that the victim would never compliment her about her looks.
'Kamilah Andrews states that this greatly affected the defendant, because she admired Naomi, almost to the point of obsession.'
'Kamilah states that the defendant would repeatedly say what she would like to do to Naomi. She states that the defendant would say 'What if I bought acid and threw it in her face, so she would know how she makes me feel?'
'Kamilah also states that the defendant told her she had joked to others about throwing acid on someone and that someone had suggested to the defendant that she should wear a 'nijab' [sic] so the police could not identify her.
'Following the attack on the victim Kamilah saw that the defendant had updated her profile on 'WhatsApp'.
'It appears that the photograph on the defendant's profile was changed and it then displayed a photograph of Freddie Krueger, the scarred-face character from the horror film 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.
'Kamilah states that the photograph was accompanied by a message stating 'Who looks like Wrong Turn now?''
School friend Safiye Laviniere said Konye changed her status on Blackberry Messenger so a message read 'She better not mess with me or I will make her face look like this' next to a photo of Freddy Krueger.

News: Acid victim, Naomi Oni's attacker finally caught. Guess who it was.....

21 year old acid victim Naomi Oni was disfigured for life after an unknown person wearing a Niqāb threw acid in her face as she walked home from work on Sunday December 30th 2012 in Lodge Avenue Dagenham, east London.

Naomi only described her attacker as a woman wearing an Islamic veil. Over a year later, police has been able to identify the person behind the veil. It was her jealous 21 year old friend, Mary Konye.

According to new reports released by police and tendered in court, Mary, a student at Hertfordshire university, disguised herself in a Niqāb, which showed only her eyes and closely followed Naomi home and allegedly poured the acid on her when they got to a deserted area. She fled the scene immediately after.

Mary Konye, who has since been arrested and facing trial, had been Naomi's friend since secondary school. Mary had always been jealous of Naomi, the court heard, and when they fought Mary decided she wanted Naomi disfigured for life and attacked her with acid.

 Naomi Oni's lawyer said in court today:

'Naomi will tell you about her friendship with the defendant. In particular she will tell you how in the past they had an up and down relationship and how the defendant had admitted to her that on one occasion in anger she threatened to throw acid at Naomi.

'There was a reason why the defendant would have chosen to make such an unusual sort of threat. In the past the two of them had discussed a young woman called Katie Piper.

'She was a woman who had acid thrown at her and that attack had been reported in the media.

'Naomi and the defendant had discussed this and it appears that the defendant knew that Naomi had been particularly moved by Katie Piper’s ordeal.

'Naomi stated that she and the defendant had fallen out in the past and says that there was an occasion during a row when she called the defendant ugly.

'She says that they were later back on speaking terms and importantly, that the defendant said to her that she (the defendant) had been so angry at the time that she had said to someone else, a friend of the defendant’s called Kamilah Andrews, that she (the defendant) wanted to throw acid at Naomi.

'Naomi believed that the defendant had realized just how upset she had been by Katie Piper’s horrible ordeal.'

'She could not see the face of the person, just the light-brown coloured skin around the eyes. She believed it was a female. The woman was staring at her.

'All of a sudden Naomi felt a liquid being thrown into her face. She screamed and immediately felt her face burning. She could smell her skin and hair burning. She immediately ran home.
