News: Nanny in Dubai kills baby after she was denied leave

A 29-year-old Indian nanny has been accused of premeditated murder, a charge she denied in the Court of First Instance. The nanny, who was seen crying in court at the sight of the baby’s parents, claimed she had just put the baby to bed. “How would I do such a thing when I am a mother myself?
The nanny is believed to have killed the baby by taking advantage of the fact that the family was away. According to prosecution records, the nanny planned the crime and waited for her employer to go to work in the morning. She then brought a scarf which she tied around the baby’s neck and gagged her with her hand.
The accused then continued her daily house work not caring that the baby was lying motionless on her bed. After the hearing, the parents tried to get answers from the nanny about what had pushed her to take away their girl’s life.
They said that they treated her as a family member and had bought her gifts.
The baby’s aunt, a 36-year-old British housewife, said she received a call from her sister at around 6.15pm on January 18, asking her to go to her home.
“I was told that the baby was not fine. I reached there within about 10 minutes and I noticed that the baby was not moving or making any sound in the nanny’s lap.”
The aunt took the baby girl in her car to a local hospital.
“The defendant was sitting quietly in the back seat, all the time  holding the baby. At the hospital I was told that she passed away about two hours ago.”
The aunt denied being aware of any disputes between the baby’s parents and the nanny. “She behaved well. And the children loved her.”
A police lieutenant said that a hospital in Al Nahda in Al Qusais reported the baby’s death around 9pm. “The accused confessed she killed the baby because she was in hard conditions after her mother passed away in India a month earlier.
She claimed her sponsor refused to send her back because he wanted her to take care of his baby and also because he had spent a huge amount of money to bring her into the country.”
She strangled the baby at around 3pm and then phoned the baby’s mothers to tell her that her girl was not breathing properly.
The aunt confirmed that the defendant wanted to travel back to her home country as her mother had died a month before the incident. But her sponsor made her stay back in order to finalise her visa procedures.
The accused admitted in the prosecution investigation that she strangled the child with her scarf and gagged her after she was denied a leave.
The forensic report said that the girl was strangled to death with a scarf.
