A first look at plans for the HUGE Dubai Expo 2020 site after the event

Ahead of the Cityscape Global, plans for the Expo 2020 site have been revealed.
District 2020 will be Dubai’s Expo 2020 legacy
According to Arabian Business, the site of the six-month long festival will be transformed, with the development’s legacy site set to become a thriving new district in Dubai South, close to Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port.
The legacy masterplan will focus on a 2 million sq m multipurpose and mixed-use community called District 2020. Within the district, there is due to be 135,000 square metres of commercial space and 65,000 square metres of residential space due to be redeveloped by Expo.
There will be a public museum, three new cultural facilities in place of the thematic pavilions which will address sustainability, mobility and opportunity themes during the Expo, plus new cycle tracks, footpaths, restaurants, shops, health centres and more facilities.
In all, Expo 2020 wants District 2020 to become a community – a thriving community where jobs are created, which attracts investment and which is home to innovators, original thinkers and pioneers.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, instructed us to build a site for a permanent legacy and therefore we had to think of ways to capitalise on what was being built for Expo as well as for post-Expo,” said Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE minister of state for international cooperation and director-general of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau. “We have created District 2020 to achieve that goal. It has been a key part of our planning from the very start, not just for our legacy team but the entire Expo organisation.”
More information will be unveiled at this Dubai’s huge city-wide construction event, Cityscape Global, where master developer Nakheel is also expected to reveal information about future projects, including an anticipated announcement for a new mall for the city.
